Farnell, the Leeds-based leading multi-channel distributor of electronic and industrial components, entered a team of 45 riders for this year's Great Yorkshire Bike Ride that took place on 5th June. Amongst the team of employees and their families was Leeds-based Paralympic cyclist, David Stone to whom Farnell is providing sponsorship and support as he works towards his goal of participating in London, 2012 Paralympics.

The Great Yorkshire Bike Ride follows a 70 mile route between Wetherby and Filey. It's an event that Farnell has supported for the past 25 years, helping to raise many thousands of pounds for the five nominated charities - Martin House, Epilepsy Research UK, Candlelighters Trust, Heart Research UK & Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Steven Webb, Company Secretary and General Counsel for Premier Farnell said: 'Although we've been sponsoring the ride for over two decades, this year's event has become even more special with David's presence. We are very pleased to have him on board and share his enthusiasm, which has driven our employee high performance culture to new levels.'

Speaking after the ride, 29-year old David Stone, who made his Paralympic Games debut in Sydney 2000 and went on to win gold medals in both road disciplines for his class at the Beijing 2008 games said: 'This is the first time that I've participated in this event, which not only raises a lot of money for charity but also promotes cycling as an important sporting activity. I am delighted to have been a part of the Farnell team who are constantly inspiring and supporting me in my journey towards realising my goal to win gold at the 2012 Paralympics.'
